BayBio Campaign Receives Emmy Award

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif – June 13, 2011 – BayBio’s 60-second television vignette produced in collaboration with CBS5 on June 11 won an Emmy Award for Commercial – Single Spot or Campaign. Its BayBio’s first Emmy Award.

The BayBio Image campaign, also called Behind the Science of Life, was developed to improve the public’s awareness of the life sciences contribution to the regional community. Supporters are engaged to share with teachers and educators information about Bio-Community, a platform which connects life science volunteers with local students and teachers.

BayBio member organizations keep our state at the cutting edge of scientific achievement and drive the economy forward,” said President and CEO Gail Maderis.  “BayBio is committed to improving education in K-12 classrooms and developing the workforce at our local community colleges.”

The television vignette was part of a broader media campaign to highlight the industry’s significant impact on the California economy and the vast career opportunities it offers Californians of multiple skill and education levels. During the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference in January 2010, BayBio ran 32 airings of a PSA showcasing the remarkable innovations emerging from the sector during the CBS morning news hours. Later in the year, the campaign, with support from Gilead Sciences, ran for six weeks during August. It again aired during the San Francisco Giants World Series Victory Parade.

BayBio and CBS5 partnered together to generate the commercial spots to improve awareness of the life sciences industry. Additional resources for the campaign we made available from Gilead Sciences and Morrison Foerster, who also ran vignettes to promote the life sciences community in Northern California.

The 40th Annual Northern California Area EMMY¬Æ Awards were announced Saturday, June 11. The EMMY¬Æ award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). San Francisco/ Northern California is one of the twenty chapters awarding regional Emmy¬Æ statuettes. All Emmy recipients are viewable here.
