EpiBiome is an agriculture technology company that employs a genomic approach to develop therapies to control and treat bovine mastitis, an infection of the udder in cattle that costs the worldwide and US dairy industries $35 billion and $2 billion, respectively, per year. EpiBiome's technology platform consists of ?bacteriophages,? or viruses that infect only bacteria, which are selected from the environment to specifically target the pathogens that cause mastitis and are packaged within a stabilizing delivery vehicle. By imitating nature's form of bacterial control, this technology addresses growing public health concerns over the use of antibiotics on farms while providing dairy producers with a more effective and socially responsible alternative to control and treat mastitis.
