Five life science startups, vetted and selected by a distinguished review panel, have been selected for CLSI’s Fall Fellows All-Star Team (FAST) Advisory Program. The fall 2016 FAST companies are: Amaryllis Nucleics, providing an efficient approach for RNA sequencing library synthesis and helping solve a global issue in genomics; Rex Animal Health, developing precision husbandry and data as a service to the animal health and agriculture industry; SyntheX, a therapeutics company that disrupts cellular communication pathways to target proteins that are inaccessible via canonical screening technologies; SciBac, creating rEvolutionary live biotherapeutics that treat antibiotic resistant disease while fortifying the microbiome & Empire Biotechnologies, an early-stage therapeutics company, focusing on gastrointestinal disorders with extreme unmet medical needs.
Each company founder will be paired with a team of 10 to 12 advisors who will meet with them over 12 weeks for one-hour advisory sessions. These meetings culminate in a final FAST Showcase in December to a broad audience of industry professionals, entrepreneurs and potential investors.
Just beginning its fourth year, FAST was developed to help some of the most innovative young life science companies FAST-track their way to funding and success. FAST’s 29 company graduates have received over 2965 advisory hours valued at over $755,000, have collectively raised $ 111 million and created over 100 new jobs since their participation in FAST.
The FAST program draws on a high-level team of serial entrepreneurs, researchers, investors and business advisors with expertise in clinical development, regulatory, reimbursement, relevant technical R&D, finance, marketing and business development. The teams provide FAST entrepreneurs with intensive team review and coaching to perfect their business model and develop a compelling commercialization strategy.
