As we prepare for our flagship Pantheon Awards Ceremony next month, I wanted to take a moment to update you on some of the other key happenings at CLSA.

Our advocacy efforts in Sacramento continue to be vital to the growth and ingenuity of life science innovation here in California. To bolster our efforts further, we recently appointed Brett Johnson as CLSA’s new Director of State and Local Government Policy. Based in CLSA’s Sacramento office, Brett is responsible for assisting in our direct legislative advocacy and education efforts with members of the California legislature, Governor’s office and various state and local agencies.

Brett will play vital roles in the continuing growth of our organization as the leading voice for California’s life sciences sector.

In other developments, I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Big3Bio Networks for an in-depth Q&A discussion on CLSA’s mission and vision for cultivating increased life sciences innovation in California. Big3Bio is a unique media organization that provides complete coverage of developments in the life sciences industry’s “Big 3” hubs: Bay Area, San Diego and Boston. Read the full Q&A.

Finally, I wanted to update you on our efforts to better communicate the value that new medicines and technologies bring to patients, our healthcare system and the economy. You may be interested in my recent Sacramento Business Journal op-ed, “Insurance companies shouldn’t limit access to care,” that responds to and corrects the “high drug prices” arguments by re-focusing the discussion on the value of medicines and the actions by insurers that are at issue in affecting patient access to medicines. I hope you enjoy this edition of the CLSA Bulletin and continue to be a part of the CLSA community. Be sure to stay connected with us at www.califesciences.org, and follow @CALifeSciences, Facebook, InstagramLinkedIn and YouTube.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our 2015 Pantheon Ceremony, November 17 in San Francisco!

Regards,
Sara Radcliffe
