Jennifer Nieto Carey
Jenny joined our organization on April 1, 2013, serving first as Associate Director for Federal Government Relations and Programs and subsequently as Director for Federal Government Relations and Alliance Development. Over the course of CLSA’s merger and integration year, Jenny assumed management and direction of our organization’s federal government relations activities in Washington DC, and has helped drive CLSA’s continued advocacy leadership with our congressional delegation, member organizations and stakeholder partners.
Prior to joining CLSA, Carey served as assistant vice president of health and biosciences at FaegreBD Consulting (formerly Baker & Daniels/B&D Consulting) where she worked with a range of health and life science sector clients on legislative and policy issues before Congress, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other state and federal agencies including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Carey previously served in the Washington, D.C. office of Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-California), a senior member of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce, where she oversaw the congresswoman’s work on the Subcommittee on Health. In that capacity, Carey guided the congresswoman’s work on legislation creating an abbreviated regulatory pathway at FDA for the approval of biosimilars products, and other key policy issues such as the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act (BPCA) of 2007, the Pediatric Research Equity Act (PREA) of 2007, the FDA Amendments Act of 2007 (FDAAA), the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA), the Biodefense and Pandemic Vaccine and Drug Development Act of 2006, the NIH Reform Act of 2006, the PREEMIE Act of 2006, and the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act.
Carey holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Davis.
