CLSA Announces Series of 2016 Public Officials Receptions
CLSA’s annual Public Officials Reception provides a unique forum for our life sciences community to become better acquainted with and informally engage the elected officials that make critical decisions impacting the sector. Previous receptions have included Members of Congress and their staffs, California State Legislators, City Council members, County Supervisors, and other statewide elected officials (click here to view photos from the last reception).
This year, and recognizing our role as the voice of California’s statewide life sciences sector, CLSA is excited to announce the expansion of our Public Officials Reception program to include events in Orange County and Los Angeles, in addition to the Bay Area.
On Sept. 15, we’re pleased to be hosting our Bay Area Public Officials Reception at Genentech South San Francisco. CLSA will also be hosting public official receptions at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and UC Irvine in Orange County on Oct. 13 and 14, respectively. Be on the lookout for more details soon. For questions, contact Mallori Merandino, CLSA’s Manager of Federal Government Relations (MMerandino@califesciences.org).
CLSA Hosts Congresswoman Mimi Walters for Member Tours at DexCom & Organovo
On July 25, CLSA hosted Congresswoman Mimi Walters (R–Laguna
Niguel) in San Diego for tours at member companies DexCom and Organovo. The visits were an opportunity to provide Congresswoman Walters, a winner of CLSA’s 2016 legislator Visionary Award, with a firsthand look at the many issues innovators in California’s life sciences sector are tackling to improve patient health and well-being. Walters expressed a keen desire to better understand the life sciences community and the innovations that companies like Organovo and DexCom are developing, as well as issues and policies — such as tax or regulatory hurdles — that can be especially challenging for growing companies.
Congresswoman Walters’ tour exemplifies CLSA’s efforts to provide premier educational opportunities to policymakers and thought leaders in Washington, Sacramento and locally. For further information, including if you would like to host a federal, state or local legislator for similar facility visits, please contact Todd Gillenwater, CLSA’s Executive Vice President, Advocacy & External Relations (TGillenwater@califesciences.org).
