August 16, 2018
This August, CLSA participated in a medical technology industry roundtable discussion with Congressman Khanna (D-Fremont). Organized by AdvaMed and hosted by BD Biosciences in San Jose, attendees included representatives from CLSA members BD and Roche, and other medtech innovators including Boston Scientific, Elekta, Stryker and Varian.
Khanna was elected to in 2016 and is currently serving his first term in Congress. This important discussion offered an opportunity for Silicon Valley medical technology innovators to better introduce the Congressman to the federal policy issues that will help encourage life sciences investment and innovation, and ensure innovative therapies and technologies are accessible and affordable to patients. The discussion focused primarily around the importance of basic research and the need to bolster funding for the NIH, the damaging effects of the medical device tax, and considering forward-thinking coverage and payment policies that incentivize investment in and enable patient access to novel medical devices.
CLSA thanks AdvaMed and BD for convening this important discussion and appreciates the opportunity to share information on exciting innovations coming out of Silicon Valley companies. We look forward to continuing to work with Rep. Khanna to ensure our state’s continued growth and leadership in biomedical and life sciences innovation.
