Introducing the Fall 2017 FAST Companies

Eight life science startups, vetted and selected by a distinguished review panel, have been selected for CLSI’s Fall 2017 Fellows All-Star Team (FAST) Advisory Program. The Fall 2017 FAST companies are:

BioAmp Diagnostics, developing diagnostic tools that decrease the time-to-results for identification of bacterial infections from 3 days to 30 minutes using an innovative amplification technology; Device Farm, developing a gas-based treatment to treat nail fungal infections; Inflammatix, developing a statistically rigorous, extensively validated diagnostic method that ‘reads’ the immune system; Oomni, developing a small molecule targeting bladder cancer that simultaneously addresses both the cancer and resultant pain; Pheronym, an Ag-biotech company that develops green solutions for agricultural pest control; Phi Therapeutics, developing a platform technology to enhance natural phage with payloads to improve bacterial targeting and neutralization; Siolta, altering the therapeutic landscape of inflammatory diseases through the development of live biotherapeutic products (LBP) using an ecosystems approach; and STATegics, developing small molecule agonists of the tissue-protective receptor for treatment of CNS and rare diseases.

Each company founder will be paired with a team of 10 to 12 advisors who will meet with them over 12 weeks for one-hour advisory sessions. These meetings culminate in a final FAST Showcase in December to a broad audience of industry professionals, entrepreneurs and potential investors.

Starting its fifth year, FAST was developed to help some of the most innovative young life science companies FAST-track their way to funding and success. FAST’s 42 company graduates have received over 4500 advisory hours valued at over $1,000,000, have collectively raised $278 million and created 187 new jobs since their participation in FAST.

The FAST program draws on a high-level team of serial entrepreneurs, researchers, investors and business advisors with expertise in clinical development, regulatory, reimbursement, relevant technical R&D, finance, marketing and business development. The teams provide FAST entrepreneurs with intensive team review and coaching to perfect their business model and develop a compelling commercialization strategy.
