Six life science startups, vetted and selected by distinguished reviewers, have been selected for CLSI’s Spring Fellows All-Star Team (FAST) Advisory Program. The spring 2017 FAST companies are: Encellin, which is focusing on cell therapy device production with a validated thin film cell encapsulation technology that protects transplanted therapeutic cells; Facile Therapeutics, progressing Ebselen as a treatment for Clostridium difficile (C diff) infection; Hepatx, advancing regenerative medicine solutions to address the need for better therapies for life-threatening liver diseases; LogicInk, designing programmable temporary tattoos that are electronics-free and transform to convey useful information about your body or environment; MicroSynbiotiX, developing cost-effective oral vaccines to combat infection in fish stocks and improve global food security; and X-Therma whose first-in-class, hyper effective (500x) and non-toxic antifreeze material offers safer transport and long-term biobanking, which is poised to transform the regenerative medicine market by enabling new technologies and therapies.
Each company founder will be paired with a team of 10 to 12 advisors who will meet with them over 12 weeks for one-hour advisory sessions. The program culminates in a final FAST Showcase in June in which FAST companies present to a broad audience of industry professionals, entrepreneurs and potential investors.Completing its fourth year, FAST was developed to help some of the most innovative young life science companies FAST-track their way to funding and success. FAST’s 34 company graduates have received over 3400 advisory hours valued at over $890,000, have collectively raised $192 million and created 135 new jobs since their participation in FAST.
The FAST program draws on a high-level team of serial entrepreneurs, researchers, investors and business advisors with expertise in clinical development, regulatory, reimbursement, relevant technical R&D, finance, marketing and business development.
