LSF-BayBio Fellow CEO Roundtable: Is Today’s Bioscience Fundable?

It is more difficult to launch a biotech company today than in any time in the history of the industry. Current fiscal and regulatory constraints threaten the viability of some of the most promising life science startups and are shaping strategies for product development. What do today’s constraints mean for building a company today?

The LSF-BayBio Fellow CEO Roundtable provides early-stage life science entrepreneurs the opportunity to engage in a moderated, candid, dialogue with some of the most respected founders and funders in the industry — leaders who helped build some of the first biotech giants, but who also see a radically different environment posing threats to new innovation. This Roundtable will also explore how a few promising Fellow companies are navigating this challenging landscape.

Topics will include:

What are the biggest challenges to entrepreneurs today?

  • What’s changed? What’s the same? What can we learn from the past? Where do we need to re-think/start over?
  • Pharma still wants innovative products. Is it possible to build/fund an innovative, sustainable therapeutic company today? If so, how?
  • How do you identify and approach strong funding partners?
  • What is the impact of the current constraints on product and risk diversification?
  • Will platform companies ever come back in vogue?
  • Is the lean business model working – what are its strengths and challenges?
