New Legislator Spotlight: Congresswoman Katie Porter (D-Irvine)

July 22, 2019

In each issue of our CLSA Bulletin, we will highlight a new member of California’s seven-member “freshman class” in the 116th Congress.

On behalf of our membership and California’s statewide life sciences community – a sector which employs over 311,000 Californians – California Life Sciences Association (CLSA) welcomes Congresswoman Katie Porter (D-Irvine). We look forward to working with Congresswoman Porter and her team to advance policies that improve patient health and bring positive change for California patients and their families.

Congresswoman Katie Porter serves California’s 45th Congressional District including the communities of Irvine, Orange, Lake Forest and Anaheim Hills. The first Democrat to ever win election in the 45th Congressional District, Rep. Porter worked as a consumer law professor at the University of California, Irvine and as a consumer protections attorney before being elected to Congress.  In 2012, Rep. Porter was appointed by then-Attorney General Kamala Harris to be California’s independent monitor of banks in a nationwide $25 billion mortgage settlement.  Congresswoman Porter is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School.  Rep. Porter lives in Irvine with her three children. Rep. Porter is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
