with Thought Leaders Panel in San Diego Shares Expert Opinions on Future of Digital Health

On August 23, I was excited to join members of the CLSA Board of Directors and more than 100 members of the life sciences community in San Diego to hear our panel of experts in digital health innovation – UCSD Rady School of Engineering Dean Al Pisano, CLSA Board of Directors Vice Chair Melinda Richter, Global Head of Johnson & Johnson Innovation | JLABS; and CLSA Board Members Tony Semedo, CEO of Medtronic Japan; George Savage, Founder of Proteus Digital Health; and Ranjeet Banerjee, Worldwide President, Medication Management Solutions at BD – and our moderator Mark Freitas, Managing Director of Accenture Strategy, explore how California companies are driving the intersection of technology and life sciences to expand and improve diagnoses, treatment options and the future of patient care.  CLSA’s annual high-impact Evening with Thought Leaders program has been a mainstay of CLSA for the last 5 years and gives CLSA members and the greater life sciences community the opportunity to stay ahead of trends in the life sciences industry and get fresh insights from key opinion leaders on policy, economics, business, and society. CLSA Hosts Congressional Life Sciences Site Visits & Roundtables

In early August, CLSA organized a 2-day tour of multiple life sciences sector companies and research institutions across the Bay Area for Congressman Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley), and his Washington DC-based staff. Cárdenas and our CLSA Federal Government Relations team visited & toured regional CLSA member companies and CLSA convened a roundtable with the Congressman, CLSA Board Members, and representatives of CLSA member companies and research institutions.

CLSA also participated in a medical technology industry roundtable discussion with Congressman Ro Khanna (D-Fremont). Organized by AdvaMed and hosted by BD Biosciences in San Jose, attendees included representatives from CLSA members BD and Roche, and other medtech innovators including Boston Scientific, Elekta, Stryker and Varian.  Both roundtables acquainted the Congressmen with federal policy issues that will help encourage life sciences investment and innovation, and ensure innovative therapies and technologies are accessible and affordable to patients. CLSA Launches “Faces of California Biomedical Innovation” PR Campaign

This month, I’m pleased to announce that CLSA launched “Faces of California Biomedical Innovation,” a digital campaign to elevate and amplify California patient voices and showcase the impact of innovative cures and treatments developed by our members and the California life sciences industry. A primary goal and member value for this multi-year ad campaign is to educate policymakers in Washington, DC and Sacramento regarding the contributions innovative life scientists and CLSA member companies make to improve patient care.

As part of the campaign, CLSA is launching a new website and advocacy hub,, that provides visitors with facts, figures, petitions, shareable infographics, and news about California’s innovation economy; a series of patient testimonial videos and more. We hope that this series will inspire others to share their stories. WATCH NOW or learn more here.
