SBA Winner CLSI to Help Accelerate Growth of UC Davis Life Science Companies
As a winner of the SBA’s third annual Growth Accelerator Competition, the California Life Sciences Institute (CLSI) is taking its successful FAST Accelerator to Davis in California’s Central Valley. The Institute – one of 68 winners among over 400 applicants to receive the $50,000 award – will use the funds to seed a new accelerator designed to drive growth in startup companies coming out of the University of California at Davis.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to bring critical business support to some of the cutting-edge life science innovation that is coming out of UC Davis,” said Lori Lindburg, CLSI’s President & CEO. “Our goal is to build strong advisory relationship that will provide operational and commercial experience and accelerate the growth of Davis startups,” added Steve Karp, who spearheads the FAST program for CLSI.
CLSI is working with partners at the Sierra Energy Research Park and at UC Davis to identify companies for a spring pilot and full fall program, with the goal of establishing a full-fledged FAST accelerator. The FAST program delivers tailored intensive business advising to help entrepreneurs navigate the product development process, regulatory requirements, market considerations, financing, and more.
The purpose of the Growth Accelerator program is to bring resources and funding to areas where there are gaps in the entrepreneurial ecosystems to support small business job creation and growth. CLSI will tap its experienced FAST network of Bay Area advisors and identify new advisors in the Central Valley to provide technical expertise to Davis companies.
