President, Medtronic Japan
Tony Semedo is President of Medtronic Japan Co., Ltd., Medtronic Sofamor Danek, Co., Ltd., and Covidien Japan Inc. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Tony Semedo began his career with Abbott Laboratories as a Product Development Engineer. After Abbot Laboratories, Tony held various management and leadership positions with Alaris Medical Systems and Eli Lilly & Co.
Tony joined Medtronic in 2002, as vice president of R&D for Medtronic [AVE] Vascular for the Coronary, Peripheral and Endovascular businesses. From 2005-2008, Tony was the co-business leader for the Medtronic Japan Cardiovascular business with Takashi Shimada, former president of Japan, and together establishing the Aortic business in Japan.
For 9 years since 2008, Tony served as senior vice president, president, Aortic & Peripheral Vascular (APV) and was responsible for leading the development and global marketing of meaningful innovations and solutions to address aortic aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease, chronic venous insufficiency, and embolization.
He currently serves as a member of the board for California Life Sciences Association, 480 BioMedical Inc., and Shockwave Medical. He is also an active member of the African Descent Network.
