UC startups model gets $22M seed-funding boost from Legislature

Each of the University of California’s 10 campuses, plus Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will receive $2 million a year to help spin out companies and products, according to a bill approved Thursday by California legislators.

The legislation, part of a package of bills adding up to a $122 billion spending plan for the budget year beginning July 1, is not yet law. It now heads to Gov. Jerry Brown for his approval or veto, perhaps as soon as next week.
